John William Trane Coltrane (September 23, 1926 in Hamlet, North Carolina / July 17, 1967 in New York) will celebrate his 100th birthday in 2026, just like his long-time playing partner Miles Davis. Saxophonist Florian Bramböck sets up a tribute to his idol, with the lineup reading like a Who's Who of the Tyrolean jazz scene. The bandleader promises just this: two milestones of John Coltrane's colorful career will also be heard in the program: A Love Supreme & My Favorite Things! “Jazz has never recovered from Coltrane's death,” notes Archie Shepp, one of the jazz greats who played with Trane. A celebration for Trane, the highly revered master, who also said: “Those who have the swing cannot march in step.”
