Eagle Walk Stage 13: Innsbruck - Zirbenweg Trail - Innsbruck

Eagle Walk Stage 13: Innsbruck - Zirbenweg Trail - Innsbruck

True mountaineers will be drawn back into the mountains again. Therefore, this easy walk will be just right after living the high life in town. Your feet can still relax for a little while as you first take a bus or tram to Igls. From there, ride the gondola to Patscherkofel Top Terminal. Zirbenweg Trail has many easy ups and downs as it meanders to the east and is lined by Stone Pines, a species that is adapted to extreme conditions imposed by elevation and latitude. The broad path winds gently up to slightly hidden Boscheben Alpine Pasture Hut. From there, hikers can branch off to Meißnerhaus Lodge in Viggartal Valley or to Tulfeinalm/Halsmarterlift where you will ride the chair lift down to Tulfes and get back to Igls and Innsbruck again. However, if you are in Tulfes, it is also recommended to visit the beautiful and historic town of Hall in Tirol.

Eagle Walk Stage 12: Hallerangerhaus - Innsbruck

Eagle Walk Stage 12: Hallerangerhaus - Innsbruck

This trek along the Eagle Walk is where you will get the best of both worlds – the urban sophistication of a historic city and remote mountain wilderness. Follow an old mule-track towards Lafatscher Saddleback and gently descend to Pfeishütte Hut, where Goetheweg Trail has its trailhead. After a short climb, the trail meanders from the north to the south side of Nordkette Range time and again—and will leave your head spinning as you’ll get a superb panorama of Innsbruck, Inntal Valley and Inn River glistening deep down. From Hafelekar, you can send your greetings to “Miss Hitt” (“Frau Hitt” in German), the stony landmark of Innsbruck, before riding Nordkette Gondola down to the valley. And, finally, Innsbruck, the lively capital city of Tirol: Architectural gems lurk around every corner of the old town. Stroll around the quaint alleys and streets to take in the atmosphere of this magical town, and you will find a host of exciting sights and attractions, inviting sidewalk cafés and restaurants, and world-class shopping opportunities.

Eagle Walk Stage 23: Ansbacher Hütte - Kaiserjochhaus

Eagle Walk Stage 23: Ansbacher Hütte - Kaiserjochhaus

Starting at a little under 2,400 metres (8,000 feet) in elevation and never dropping below 1,700 metres (6,100 feet), your hike on the Lechtal Alps’ airy ridges will provide miles of dramatic views. The elevation gain and loss is constant on this walk, but that just allows for constantly varying angles of the beauty that surrounds you. Start off by gaining Flarschjoch Col, Knappenböden Floors and Alperschonjoch Col; beyond either tackle the steep, rough, and technical Haas-Weg Trail or opt for an easier alternative. Is it about the journey or the destination? You decide. The final push to Kaiserjochhaus Lodge, taking you up to an elevation of 2,310 metres, is another exposed scramble with a fixed anchoring system of cables. But it's all worth it. At the end of the day, Kaiserjochhaus Lodge extends a warm welcome and a sincere invite to call it a day.
