Tour information

The starting point for Tour 209 is Westendorf’s tourist information office. We turn left onto Dorfstrasse, after the church we turn left again towards the Alpenrosenbahn. Passing the gondola station, we follow route 209 on an asphalt road, pass the Gassnerwirt restaurant and on to the Schrandlhof inn, at which stage we have already conquered the first 300 metres of altitude. Passing the inn, we now follow the well-maintained gravel path towards Fleidingalm. Under the shade of the forest, through sunny sections and surrounded by green Alpine meadows, the well-signposted path winds its way uphill. Shortly before the Fleidingalm the path divides, and we take the route towards the mountain-top station Alpenrosenbahn / Talkaser / Choralpe. Passing the Fleidingalm, the last ascent behind us, we reach the Talkaser restaurant and the Alpenrosenbahn. After another 500m we’ve made it: we’ve reached the highest point and treat ourselves to a break. Before we set off on our descent, we wistfully glance once more over the stunning panorama. We tackle the first bumpy metres of the descent across a meadow. Via a stony forest path we reach the Kandleralm on route 211, after which the path improves. When we get back to the valley, we return to Westendorf along the Brixental cycle path No. 21.
