The starting point and destination of this extensive circular tour is the hamlet of Aschau in Kirchberg i.T. – with various places to stop for refreshments. At the start of the tour, you ride along a paved road through the Spertental nature reserve. The gently ascending route leads along the river, past alpine meadows and a waterfall with a suspension bridge. Before the turn-off to Karalm (variant 1), the paved road turns into a gravel forest path. This is where the more difficult part of the tour begins. After a few bends and a longer, straight section, cyclists reach the Schöntalalm junction (variant 2), from where it is possible to climb the Großer Rettenstein on foot (caution – only for experienced hikers). If you continue along the Rettensteinrunde, you will reach the Hirzeggalm junction (variant 3). At the Hirzeggalm, you can enjoy the view over the entire valley and indulge in culinary delights at the hut. If you feel like it, you can hike from the Hirzeggalm to the ‘Spießnägel’.Once you have completed the ascent, the route descends again from the third junction. After the last bend in the forest road, the route leads from the Kasplatzl show dairy along the asphalt road back to the starting point in Aschau.
