Westendorf's Village Walkabout

Starting at Westendorf’s information office, you first walk through the beautifully maintained cemetery, with the Lourdes Chapel and the Chapel of Souls, to the parish church.  The church is dedicated to St. Nicholas and belongs to the deanery of Brixen im Thale in the Archdiocese of Salzburg.  The building is a listed monument.  Pass the village fountain, which was made by the Westendorf sculptor Chr. Unterrainer, you cross the village street to the municipal office.  At the rear of the building the public toilet facilities are located.
 
In front of the municipal building you can see our village coat of arms and next to it you can get a brief insight into the historical events of the municipality of Westendorf.  Beside Hotel Jakobwirt, which was described as an "inn" in 1359, we turn left into the Unterdorf district.  Here you will find some farms steeped in history, such as Schlögl, Untermannhart and Tischler, which is being renovated in 2021.  As you cross the road again, you are now facing the "Vereinshaus", the local societies and clubs’ premises, which was opened in 2012.  This is the home of the brass band, the music school and some associations such as the rifle company, the Austrian Comradeship Association and the traditional costumes society.  It also houses a small library. In front of the clubhouse there is a bus stop in the direction of Wörgl. In the basement, the municipality runs a central wood chip heating system for its public buildings. 
In very close proximity you can also find the Alpenrosensaal (the village hall), the kindergarten, the primary and secondary schools and Westendorf’s alpine dairy. Here you can buy delicious regional products. 
If you now move along the Sennereiweg, you will reach the "Bichlinger" junction with the beautiful "Koller" wayside cross on the other side of the road.  Here we cross the road and find ourselves in front of the Raiffeisen Bank.  In the immediate vicinity you can also find the post office, pharmacy and a supermarket. 
At the bank we turn left and come to the tennis courts, turning to the right we pass the music pavilion and arrive once again at the information office.
