Away from well-known routes: Schwaigerberg

We begin this hike at the Gasthaus Lendwirt in the Unterwindau, Westendorf.  Following the road into the valley, we turn to the right crossing over a small bridge and keep to the right at the fork in the road. From this point we begin our ascent up the Schwaigerberg mountain.  After a few steep, uphill bends on the road, we arrive at a large meadow and the three farms to which it belongs: Liendlinger, Bartla and Hoanzer.  Already at this location we have a beautiful view of the Brixental Valley.  We continue uphill for a short distance, remaining straight-ahead at an entrance leading to the left and arrive once again at a fork in the road. At the “Stadl” (barn) which is directly at the fork, we branch off to the right, downhill and walk in the direction of “Gruberberg”, Hopfgarten.  After a short distance downhill, we have the opportunity to call into the Jausenstation Grindahof for refreshments.  After a little rest, we continue downhill along the road and eventually come to the main road. At the Neuschmied sawmills we turn to the right and remain on this main road for approx. 300 m.  Immediately after the railway bridge we turn right, passing the waterfall and electricity station and follow the Unterwindauer Straße until we arrive back at our departure point, the Gasthaus Lendwirt.
