Start your hike in the center of St. Johann in Tirol at the information office.
First, walk in the direction of the Hinterkaiser district, past the soccer field and continue until you reach the former Café Hinterkaiser. There you turn right and first follow the path past the farm to the next street. There you turn left into the first piece of forest. The path leads to the Way of the Cross, designed by the artist Horst Pali, up to the Maria Blut hermitage. This hermitage has been inhabited and cared for by hermits for 300 years. Through a wooded area, the trail leads steeply up to the Gmail Chapel on the Niederkaiserkamm. The path repeatedly offers beautiful views of the Kitzbüheler Horn as well as the valley basin from St. Johann to Oberndorf. Arriving at the ridge you catch a glimpse down to Kirchdorf. The Gmail Chapel is a baroque building with rococo stuccoes inside the building. A true place of power!
The descent is first via the same route. At the Maria Blut hermitage, instead of choosing the Way of the Cross again, you can also keep straight on. This path takes you across green pastures to the district of Bärnstetten. When you reach the Neureithweg turn right and walk along a field path. At the carpentry Meickl you cross the well-known Hinterkaiserweg again and follow it back to the starting point.
