Tour information

Start your hike in the center of St. Johann in Tirol at the Tourist Office.

Walk in the direction of the Hinterkaiser district, past the soccer field and continue until you reach the former Cafe Hinterkaiser. There you turn right and follow the path past the Schwentling farm. At the end of the gravel road keep left. Soon after the small forest you have a beautiful panoramic view of St. Johann in Tirol. At the Saubichlhof farm begins a narrow path that winds up through the forest. This path leads to the Way of the Cross, designed by artist Horst Pali, up to the Maria Blut Hermitage. The hermitage has been inhabited and cared for by hermits for 300 years. Under shady trees, the hiking trail now leads steeply up to the Gmail chapel on the Niederkaiser ridge. There will be many views of the Kitzbüheler Horn as well as the valley of St. Johann until Oberndorf. The Gmail Chapel is a baroque building with rococo stuccoes inside the building. A true place of power!
The descent is first via the same route. At the Maria Blut hermitage, keep straight on to descend into the valley. Across green pastures you reach the district of Bärnstetten. Passing the Aggstein distillery, you reach the Großache via Gasteiger Straße, which leads you back to the center.
