KARLI (12) moves with his family to the Alps, where his parents finally fulfill their dream of owning a hotel. During his explorations of the former Grand Hotel, he discovers that he can travel through time in an old freight elevator – and lands in the year 1938! There, Karli befriends the Jewish guest girl HANNAH and the shoeshine boy GEORG. But Karli doesn't dare to tell his friends what he learns about the year 1938 and why it is vital that Hannah does not return to Berlin. When Georg is wrongfully accused of theft and fired, his new friends want to help him and find the real crook. In doing so, the three discover that strange things are happening in the hotel. Is the handsome pianist BRUNO a jewel thief? And is Hannah's father in cahoots with him? The children decide to solve the mystery and find out that a huge secret lies behind the façade of the hotel!
