Kino Monoplexx: Rose (German)

In a poetic search for traces, director Regina Schilling involves the audience in the creation of art: actress Sandra Hüller approaches the life of Ingeborg Bachmann on an imaginary day, giving her words an urgent presence. With an artful weave of improvised scenes, archival treasures, interviews, and Bachmann's own texts, the film traverses the central phases of the author's life – from her war childhood in Carinthia, her rise as a star of the Group 47, to her last days in Rome. The path is marked by her complicated relationships with Paul Celan, Hans Werner Henze, and Max Frisch, and an unyielding struggle for her own radical language amid public fame and existential crises.
On the 100th anniversary of Ingeborg Bachmann's birth, Regina Schilling achieves both a sensual and intellectual approach to one of the most significant writers of the 20th century. Through the powerful interpretation of Sandra Hüller and masterful archival montages, Bachmann's linguistic power is immediately experienced in cinema.
