Cattle Driving Festivals in Kirchberg in Tirol
23rd and 30th of September 2017
The highlight to ring in autumn is without doubt the farmers returning home, driving their cattle back into the valleys from the alpine pastures. Early morning, the cows and calves are decorated with colorful floral arrangements - an expression of the alpine summer having passed without misfortune. Often, the two-legged and four-legged friends march home for hours and while the lush meadows in the valley await the cows, it's the merry hustle and bustle that the alpine herdsmen and dairymaids look forward to after weeks of silence on the mountains. The driving down of cattle is an old tradition and a firework of colors, scents and sounds. The journey home of the herds of cows is a particularly important festive occasion in Brixental Valley.
