Gasthof Mamooserhof

As well as the impressive landscapes and variety-packed activities that the Region Hohe Salve offers, the region invites you to enjoy a culinary highlight: Törggelen. The Kitzbühel Alps are not just a paradise for hikers and cyclists in the summer, in autumn too they also offer an incomparable natural and traditional experience. The landscape is transformed into a vibrant sea of colours which invites you to head out on extended walks and hikes. After an action-packed day in the mountains Törggelen provides the perfect finale, for enjoying a culinary experience of the region.
The concept ‘Törggelen’ stems from the Latin word ‘torquere’, which means ‘ to turn’ or ‘to press’. Törggelen is an old (South)Tyrolean tradition, that was originally celebrated as a culinary ‘harvest festival’ by our neighbours, South Tyrolean winegrowers. In the time after the wine pressing, hearty celebratory meals were enjoyed with local specialities. During this time the young wine of the year was poured and sampled, accompanied by meals made using home-grown and home-made produce, including chestnuts, meats and sausages. Today Törggelen has become a popular autumnal tradition which is no longer only celebrated in wine-growing areas, but throughout Tyrol too. Although the selection of meals and drinks has been expanded and in the meantime even older wines and mulled wine are served, the feeling of contentment and warmth, along with the idea of enjoying a convivial get-together have remained.
In the Region Hohe Salve, nestling in the picturesque Kitzbühel Alps, Törggelen is a very special experience. Here Tyrolean hospitality, culinary tradition and the beauty of the autumnal natural surroundings combine to create a unique festival. In the cosy snugs in the region specialities including bacon, sauerkraut, cured meats, farmhouse bread, jam doughnuts and of course roast chestnuts are waiting for you. For the most part served with wine. After a hike through the vibrantly coloured woodlands, there is not much nicer than bringing the day to close with a Törggelen evening. You will come across numerous business in the Region Hohe Salve that offer Törggelen. Take a look at our list of selected businesses, to find the Törggelen spots that are close to you.
