In summer the wonderful hiking and footpaths entice bipeds and four-legged friends into nature. In the forests, on the meadows and Alpine pastures there is plenty to discover and "sniff out". The clear mountain streams and rivers provide the necessary refreshment in between. In winter nature wraps itself up in a white frock. Snow for most dogs is an absolute highlight. They sniff, romp about and roll around while you can enjoy your time out in nature winter hiking or snowshoeing.

Hiking with dogs in the Holiday Region Hohe Salve

Leash is mandatory and poop bag

The Holiday Region Hohe Salve with the wonderful hiking and footpaths offers plenty of space for running free in summer as winter. In some areas, however, your four-legged friends must be kept on the leash. Leashes are mandatory in public buildings, shops, restaurants, public transport, parks and near pasture areas. In addition, in Wörgl leashes are also mandatory on the hiking trail to Möslalm, on footpaths and on running tracks. Leashes are mandatory in the Holiday Region Hohe Salve for all dogs without exception. Non-compliance may incur a fine of up to € 360.00.

The wonderful nature and alpine world is probably the most precious asset in the Holiday Region Hohe Salve. As a dog owner, please help to keep the environment clean and properly dispose of any dog poo. In the Holiday Region Hohe Salve you’ll find poop bag dispensers and rubbish bins at regular intervals along the foot and hiking paths. Please note that in Austria, properly disposing of dog poo is required by law. This rule applies to all dogs, always and everywhere. The only exception to this are service dogs (hunting/rescue dogs) during service missions. Please note: Leaving dog poo behind may incur a fine of up to € 1,820.

Your four-legged darlings can accompany you on almost every experience in the Holiday Region Hohe Salve. You want to use the cable car with your dog? No problem! The Salvenbahn I and II in Hopfgarten will carry your dog for free. Having arrived at the top, you can then explore the summit of Hohe Salve and the expansive hiking area.

The cable cars Brixen im Thale, Westendorf, Ellmau-Going and Scheffau also carry dogs at no cost. With the cable car Söll you can take your dog on single trips for a surcharge of € 2.00. If you have a season ticket or a cable car adventure card, taking your dog with you is free. Please note that dogs in the area of the cable car and in the gondola must be leashed. Where applicable, a muzzle must also be worn.

Dogs are also allowed on public transport. Small dogs can be carried in a pet carrier. Bigger dogs must be kept on the leash and wear a muzzle. Dogs can be carried for free in buses. In trains, however, you need to buy a ticket for your dog. This rule applies to all dogs, except for registered assistance dogs.

Swimming with dogs

To cool off on hot summer days, take a jump into the cool waters. This is especially popular not only with us bipeds - four-legged friends also delight in refreshing in the water. This is best done in cold mountain streams, calm spots in rivers and refreshing mountain lakes. Note: In the swimming pools and swimming lakes of the Holiday Region Hohe Salve, dogs are not allowed. By the reservoirs at Hohe Salve, dogs are also not allowed in the water.

In the following swimming lakes near the Holiday Region Hohe Salve dogs are allowed:

• Reinthalersee at Kramsach (only at the western shore)
• Natural swimming lake Stimmersee in Langkampfen
• Pillersee in St. Ulrich
• Walchsee in Kaiserwinkl
• Forest pool Gieringer Weiher in Reith at Kitzbühel
• Achensee (except on the bathing beach)

In summer, cows, sheep, goats and horses graze on the pasture areas. These may feel threatened by your four-legged companion. Correct conduct when encountering grazing animals is thus particularly important. The most important tips and rules for your own safety are clearly listed here.
