Tour information

This hike begins at the carpark just below the Foischingalm in the Windau valley, Westendorf.   To get here either drive with your private car or with the “Windautaler Wandertaxi” (Windau valley hiking taxi).  For info please contact 0043 57507 2000 300.
Departing from the carpark, we follow the access road, to our left, to the lower Foischingalm.  The hiking trail to Oberfoischingalm begins above the farm buildings.  First we follow an easy farm track uphill.  After a short duration we follow the signpost, branching off to the left onto a hiking trail.  Remaining on this trail, we come to just below the Oberfoischingalm on the Alpine path.  Continuously following this path, we pass first the new and then the old Oberfoischingalm farm buildings.  Shortly after the old farm, the path leads slightly downhill to the Schreier Bründl.  Without fail, you must sample this magnificent spring water and refill your drink bottles.
Having past the Schreier Bründl, we continue on to the Filzenscharte.  This represents the border point between the provinces Tyrol and Salzburg!
At this point you have a magnificent view of the Hohe Tauern!  If you wish, you can of course continue hiking along the beautiful Filzbach stream to the Sonntag Alm or to the Trattenbachalm. As it happens, some very pleasant mountain bike tours lead via the Filzenscharte into Pinzgau or even further via the Tauern to South Tyrol.
After a relaxing break we return to the Schreier Bründl.  Directly opposite the Bründl we follow the hiking trail downhill which joins up with the Alpine path a considerable distance below the Oberfoischingalm.   Remaining on this path for a short distance, we keep to the left at a sharp right-hand bend and continue downhill to the Windauer Ache (river) and the “Krumbach” carpark.  Hiking further out of the valley along the gravel road, we pass the Baumgartenalm and arrive back at the “Foisching” car park.
Alternative: At the Schreier Bründl, you can follow the Alpine path further on to the Rotwandalm, where there are wonderful refreshments available.  From here, the “Krumbach Steig” (descent) leads directly to the “Krumbach” carpark.
