Information

Nestling in the Kaiser Mountains that’s where you will find Fritz Pflaum Hütte. The refuge was set up to honour Fritz Pflaum. He is a legendary Alpinist from a past era and a great fan of the Wilder Kaiser. It was during a challenging mountain tour in the Bernese Alps that Dr. Fritz Pflaum died on 25th August 1908. Four years after his death, on 25th August 1912, a refuge in the middle of the Kaiser mountain summits dedicated to him was officially opened. Between 1937 and 1949 the name Fritz Pflaum Hütte disappeared from many maps and was replaced by the designation Griesnerkarhütte. The reason for this was that there was no place for Jewish names in the German Reich. After the war the name was changed back to Fritz Pflaum Hütte again.
