Tips for the right equipment

Without the right equipment you can easily work up a sweat when snowshoeing. To ensure that the trip into the snowy winter scenery sticks in your memory for a long time to come, we have put together a couple of tips for the right equipment for you here.

  • Hiking outfit: Wear several layers above each other and adapt to the respective conditions. Make sure that the jacket is not too small. This will restrict your movement, is uncomfortable and will make you feel cold more easily.

  • Gloves and socks: Gloves are extremely important, as the hands and feet have cold receptors. Don’t use socks made from cotton; they will store moisture and increase dissipation of warmth. Better: Blends of all and synthetics.

  • Shoes: Good, sturdy and cold-resistant shoes with non-slip and stiff treaded rubber soles.

  • Gaiters: should ideally reach up to the knees; on unploughed trails the gaiters prevent cold wetness from getting into the shoes.

  • Underwear: Here, too, synthetic material has the benefit that moisture is transported to the outside and the body does not become hypothermic as quickly.

  • Trousers: Should protect against wetness, keep the wind out, warm the body and reach all the way down over the shoes. Jeans are not suited for winter hiking!

  • Jacket: Breathable and robust materials have proven to be the best here.

  • Pullover: Synthetic fibres have come out on top here, too. Fleece is very functional and light.

  • Poles: (telescopic) poles with large discs provide the necessary stability and foothold in the snow
