More than 400 kilometres of marked trails, challenging fixed-rope climbing routes and several themed and pilgrimage trails are available. The adventure worlds like Triassic Park in Waidring, Timok's Wild World in Fieberbrunn, the Familienland adventure park and the Jakobskreuz on Buchensteinwand provide some true highlights in the mountains. The stage is all yours for dream mountain experiences!

In a comprehensive certification process, the entire hiking offering in the region, from the trails to the system of directions, along with all the hiking information for guests, has been examined very carefully in order to present you with a very high-quality, but above all authentic hiking offering!

Since 2009, the association for quality assurance for hiking in Austria has made it its job to mark particularly recommended hiking regions, hiking trails, hiking villages and hiking establishments with a seal of quality. By analysing the strengths and weaknesses, the association for quality assurance for hiking in Austria evaluates hiking-friendly regions, villages, establishments and hiking trails. Only the best are awarded the Austrian hiking seal of quality, which stands for guaranteed dependable hiking quality. In PillerseeTal the three villages of Waidring, St. Ulrich am Pillersee and Fieberbrunn, the Waiwi long-distance hiking trail and a select group of establishments have been awarded the seal.

Quality criteria of the Austrian hiking seal of quality:

  • checkCertified hiking village: Starting point for an adventure in the open nature, authentic appearance, comprehensive hiking infrastructure, easily accessible and well organised network of hiking trails

  • checkCertified hiking establishments: Accommodation with a service programme specially tailored for hikers, such as hiking tours, rental of hiking equipment, transport service

  • checkCertified hiking trail: Hiking trails with extraordinary hiking properties – good routing, sufficient orientation aids and a good condition. Important requirements for gaining the seal are also cleanliness, an ideal trail length, sufficient rest and relaxation spots, a basic offering of places where you can stop off to eat as well as nature attractions along the route.
