Nature's Jewel - the Windau Valley

The Windau valley is a tributary to the Brixen valley and stretches for a distance of 16 km between Westendorf and a part of Hopfgarten. In the south, the valley borders on the province of Salzburg - which can be reached via the Filzenscharte.

Hikers, mountain bikers and cyclists are just as attracted to the numerous possible tours and routes as the ski touring guests are.

The Salzburg-Tyrol-Railway runs along the hillside and through numerous tunnels, passing through the lower (Northern) Windau Valley where, in the middle of a curve, crosses a bridge which spans the valley. At the north-eastern edge of the valley is the "Windau" station. The so-called "Windauer Schleife" (Windau Curve) is very scenic and used to gain height in the valley, is a very popular photo opportunity for railway photographers.
