Go by car to the tollgate Zwieselbrücke at the end of Kelchsau. Keep to the left and follow the road to Kurzer Grund and to the inn Gasthof Wegscheid. Leave your car at the parking area there and walk along the forest path until the first turn.
Follow the sign-posted path until shortly before the Neue Bamberger Hütte. At the entrance of the mountain pasture Kuhwildalm take the forest path on the left and head on uphill to Streifeldalm (1982 m), At the dairy farm buildings (way marks for Tristkopf and Kröndl on the stable), a mountain path leads you to the Nandernachjoch at 2100 m above sea level, the border to Salzburg.
Now walk along the mountain crest up to the well visible cross on the summit of the Tristkopf.
There is an alternative for your way back, leading you via Nandernachjoch to Markkirchl and further on back to the Neue Bamberger Hütte.
