Go by car to the “Zwieselbrücke” bridge (toll station) and then keep to the left and drive along the Kurzer Grund valley until the inn Gasthof Wegscheid. From here continue on foot. In the beginning the walk leads along the riverside through a forest over a narrow path in the direction of the alpine hut “Neue Bamberger Hütte” which you reach after approx. 1 ½ hours. Behind the alpine hut the terrain gets wider and you’ll be offered a wonderful panoramic view of the alpine area of “Rosswildalm”. On well sign-posted mountain paths the hike goes on to the lake “Unterer Wildalmsee”. About 15 minutes later you’ll pass a second lake and then, over some steps, get to a third one, the Oberer Wildalmsee, which is situated right beneath the summit. Accompanied by fantastic views of the Hohe Tauern mountain range the hike leads on to the summit of Schafsiedel mountain where you’ll be rewarded with a breath-taking 360° panorama. We recommend: bring along your swimming things!
