Koasa Trail Stage 4

Follow the signs to the Griessbachklamm gorge along a little used road. After a few minutes’ walk, you will come to the Griessbachklamm car park. From here, the footpath leads along the stream into the Griessbachklamm. Some suspension bridges, jetties over the stream and two waterfalls line the route. The natural treasure of the Griessbachklamm offers plenty of variety. In another more remote area of a small side valley you will find seating, a barefoot trail with a meditation circle and much more. At the end of the gorge, you will follow a small section of forest road towards ‘Angerlalm und Huberalm’ until the ‘Jägersteig’ ascent turns off right into the forest. At the end of the ascent is the Angerlalm (approx. 2 h 30 mins) where you can stop off for a refreshment break and enjoy magnificent views of the Loferer Mountains and Steinplatte. After a short rest, you will walk past a small pond on towards ‘Obingalm und Adlerspoint’. The tour leads along the forest roads towards ‘Baumoosalm und Baumooskogel’ and then past endless Alpine meadows, all in agricultural use. A detour to the (4 h 30 mins), the highest point on the limestone rock, is well worthwhile and offers magnificent all-round views of the surrounding mountains. The descent initially follows a beautiful incline through the forest and meadowland area and after approx. 30 minutes, opens into a forest road which will take you to the hamlet of Scheffau. Here you will follow an ascent up to Oberhofen and on to the centre of the town of St. Johann in Tirol.
