Kitzbühel Alps ski touring transition - stage 3

Note
The tour starts at the mountain hut “Neue Bamberger Hütte”. After a short incline in the beginning, it soon leads over flat terrain and takes us even a little downhill when crossing the valley bottom. The distinctive features of “Tristkopf” mountain ahead of us, we now walk up the open slopes north of it in the direction of “Nadernachjoch” (2100 m) whereby we can ignore the ridge to our right because we can take the trail to “Kröndlhorn” by keeping to the left before. Behind the ridge we now climb the wonderful slopes which open up in front of us. Finally in western direction underneath the rocky summit of” Kröndlhorn” we follow the summer hiking trail, cross a draw and continue uphill along the wind gap (without skis). Keeping to the right side we get in only a few minutes up to the summit (2444 m) and the lovely, tiny chapel. The descent leads via beautiful hollows always east of the ridge. We pass the “Egartlacke” below the “Molterfeldspitze” and run further on downhill and up again to “Schneegrubenspitze” (2444m), east of the peak P. 2269. The easy descent follows the north-eastern ridge. Far more interesting, however, is the steep entry to the north-facing slopes which offer wonderful runs down to the alpine pasture “Schneegrubenalm”. Then we take the route up to “Schneegrubenschartl” (1902 m) where we might encounter ski tourers from the “Schneegrubenspitze”. Without greater problems we cross the wide mountain’s crest to “Steinbergstein” (2215 m).
Descent via “Lagfeldenalm” to the inn Gasthaus Steinberg (872m)
