On roads and steep paths, proceed through the Alpine terrain to the highest point of the tour at Ehrenbachhöhe. From there hike to the ridge of the Hahnenkamm through the Kitzbühel ski area to the Hahnenkamm mountain station, before the descent along the Streif race route to Kitzbühel begins. There are billboards which provide explanations of singular, well-known sections of the route (e.g. Mausefalle). Some breathtaking views to Kitzbühel and the Wilder Kaiser can be seen from here.
From the centre of Kirchberg, head for the church and through Neugasse and Möselgasse to a log house with yellow hiking-route signposts reading Maierl 1,5 h. The route branches off to the left here to Kasbachweg, leading through pastures to the edge of the forest. At the houses on the left, change onto the path leading into a forest. This lovely route soon runs into open pastures again; later, continue on an asphalt access road past the cable-car parking lot (always follow the Maierl, Nr. 11 signposts). Continue on this slightly ascending road past a farmstead until you once again come to the edge of the forest. A forest trail branches off to the left here (Bergschenke Krin, Ochsalm).
This route is somewhat steeper and once again reaches open alpine terrain/meadows, in several serpentines through the forest to the top again. Continue on a lovely pasture-land trail heading up until you come to the asphalt access road beneath Bergschenke Krin. Go past the guesthouse and continue on the road to Maierl. You soon come to the plateau where Gasthaus Maierl is situated and which has dreamy views of the entire Wilder Kaiser area.
Some 200 metres before the guest-house, a forest trail branches off – keep to the signposts for Ochsalm. After around 300 metres, take a sharp right and after further one hundred metres bear left on a steep path into the forest. This route now climbs up through the forest – continue through a pasture and take a half-left turn back into the forest. Now proceed through a short section of forest again, climbing less steeply through Alpine terrain, until you come to a forest trail. To the right of this, initially on a short section which goes downhill slightly, climb up again to Ochsalm (1,458 m; 2 hours from Kirchberg). Hike on this forest trail and head for Ehrenbachhöhe. You soon come to the saddle (approx. 100 metres to the north of Gasthaus Hochbrunn). Bear left here heading for Ehrenbachhöhe and after not even one hundred metres, head left and up on the hiking trail to Ehrenbachhöhe (1,802 m; 1 hour 15 mins from Ochsalm).
When you get there, follow the signs for Ehrenbachhöhensee and hike beneath the Fleckalmbahn to the reservoir right next to it. Behind the reservoir, a short section leads through a pasture down to Bernhardkapelle. Now on a forest trail, continue to the nearby Hahnenkammbahn (1,668 m; 45 mins from Ehrenbachhöhe). Here you can shorten the route and head straight back to Kitzbühel by cable car. Those who are fit enough to continue hiking can continue past Hocheckhütte and through the skiing area down to Seidlalm.
Hike directly on the well-known Streif race route (Streif race route hiking trail no. 26). Mausefalle, Steilhang and Hausbergkante are household names when it comes to skiing. The route leads to Seidlalmsee, which can be seen from all directions. A brief section of the route leads back on the race route and along it to Seidlalm (1,206 m). After Seidlalm, a short section of the path leads along the race route to Lärchenschuss. Cross Lärchenschuss and follow the hiking trail through a short section of forest to Hausbergkante. The final large screen is situated here at Hausbergkante (you can watch live skiing here during races).
The descent runs right across Hausbergkante and to the Ganslern slalom slope. This zig-zagging route takes you past Gansleralm to the fastest section of the race route (where speeds of up to 140 km/h are reached). Both destinations end on the golf course of Rasmushof. The route now leads to the road Hausbergtal; follow this into the valley and the signposts for the Kitzbühel valley station for the Hahnenkammbahn (around 2 hours from the Hahnenkamm mountain station). It is about 5 minutes from the valley station to the centre of Kitzbühel.
