This stage of the KAT bike route leads us on a side road from Hopfgarten to the sunny plateau of Penningberg (229) and further on to the end of the valley at the end of the road. It is there where the ascent starts to Haag-Alm (1350m). The downhill run from Haag-Am to Kelchsau offers a lot of variety. The route then takes us out of the valley to the Kelchsau chairlift valley station where we turn right into Zillfeldweg (227) which – spectacular views included - takes us uphill to the “Toif” farmstead where the road forks.
The shorter and simpler route continues along path 227 which runs into the Brixental cycle path (21). We drive on in the direction of the Windautal valley to the inn Lendwirt. There the tour leads us for a short part uphill on the left, past the Westendorf golf course to the village centre.
After another short climb we ride down to the lovely Windautal valley. The last kilometres lead along the cycle path past the alpine dairy Käsealm Straubing to the inn Lendwirt. There the tour leads us uphill again, past the Westendorf golf course, and finally along the Brixental cycle path to the end of the stage – Brixen im Thale. To Westendorf we can ride comfortably – without any loss of altitude worth mentioning – via Jägerhäusl along Windautal road.
