Driving down of cattle from the mountain pastures in the Kitzbüheler Alpen
The highlights to ring in autumn are without doubt the farmers returning home, driving their cattle back into the valleys from the alpine pastures.
In the early morning, the cows and calves are adorned with colorful floral arrangements – a sign that the alpine summer passed off without misfortune. Often the two- and four-legged friends march for hours back home and while the lush grasslands in the valley await the cows, it's the merry hustle and bustle that welcomes the alpine staff after weeks of silence on the mountains. The driving down of cattle is an old tradition and a firework of colors, scents and sounds. The journey home of the herds of cows is a particularly important festive occasion in Brixental valley.
