FAQ

Frequently asked questions about Climbing!

  • Sport climbing is a form of climbing during which you move along on the rock or on the climbing wall using only natural holds. Hooks and rope are only for securing.

  • The difficulty level indicates the climbing difficulty of a route. There are various rock-climbing scales, but the most frequently used are the UIAA – Scale (1 – 12-) and the French Scale (1 – 9b). In the climbing crag Schleierwasserfall, the UIAA – Scale is used and there you’ll find climbing routes from difficulty level 5 to 11.

  • Climbing shoes, climbing helmet, climbing harness, belay device, chalk bag & chalk, tape, bouldering brush, climbing rope, rope bag, rope sack, express-set, quickdraws, carabiners, screw gate connector, sling/runner, double strap, figure of eight, friends, nuts, nut-remover, first-aid kit, climbing backpack, climbing wear, drink and provisions.

  • Climbing shoes are necessary, as they provide good static friction for a thorough grip and thus good foothold. When climbing, most strength comes from the legs so wearing climbing shoes should not be underestimated. Climbing shoes have a flat and firm sole, which stiffens towards the tip.

  • The chalk consists of magnesium carbonate and is carried in a chalk bag (small pouch on the waist belt) and helps prevent the hands from sweating and improves grip on the rock.
