River adventure trail at the Großache from Kirchdorf to Erpfendorf
The river adventure trail runs along the banks of the Großache between Kirchdorf and Erpfendorf, covering a length of 3.5 km and is an example of how people's safety and concessions to the species-rich natural surroundings need not be a contradiction. Along the banks display boards provide information about the Kirchdorf flood protection project and its positive consequences for the environment, which complement the well-being of the people and nature in a unique way. The viewing platforms mean that you can observe the habitat without disturbing anything, while rest points with tables and benches ensure there is somewhere to have a rest and recover, while children have lots of places to play at the sandy bays.
Branches and ponds provide a new habitat for creatures that live in the water, such as grass frogs, yellow-bellied toads, stone flies and black fly larva. Along with rainbow trout, there are a great deal of grayling and river trout and even fish which are already scarce, like the chub, minnow, stone loach and rudd. The gravel banks, which are only slightly vegetated, are a habitat for the rare sandpiper, white-throated dippers and mallards which prefer to be close to the water, a goosander can also be spotted quite often. All stations on the river adventure trail can be accessed by bike (around 20 minutes) and on foot (around 1.5 hours).
