St. Johann in Tirol, 10.10.2019 (Th)

A popular hiking destination offers spectacular views of the Wilder Kaiser’s northern rock walls. On our hike through the nature reserve to Ranggenalm, the Kaiser massif is our constant companion, and we really get to enjoy the beautiful views throughout the hike. At “Vordere Ranggenalm” they still produce cheese in traditional style, and binoculars will allow you to see chamois in their natural habitat. At “Latschenbrennerei” you will learn how oil is extracted from mountain pines. Loaner binoculars are available for use during the hike. Starting at the tourist office, we walk through town towards Samerbadl. The hike leads through a forest up to Eifersbacher Waterfall, which cascades down over 30 meters. The trail then becomes a bit steeper for a short distance before reaching the first lake where we enjoy magnificent views of Loferer Steinberge. We continue past Dechant Alm to Pointenhof and on to Lake Schlossbergsee which offers superb views of the rugged Wilder Kaiser range. After a short uphill we reach the hike’s last lake, Bergsee at the mid terminal. On the way down we walk past Bassgeigeralm, Alpengasthof Hirschberg and Hochfeldalm. If you are tired or have bad knees, you can take the gondola back down.  Walking time: 5 h 800 m elevation gain Hiking guides may change the tour program at their discretion due to adverse weather conditions and/or participants’ experience levels.
