Autumnal hiking weeks in St. Johann in Tirol, Oberndorf, Kirchdorf, Erpfendorf

27th September – 9th October, in the region

Hiking means experiencing the natural surroundings, getting to know cultural landscapes, being at one with yourself and listening to your body. Big and small, old and young, those with sporting ambitions or at a leisurely pace – hiking has something to offer everyone. Free guided hikes are offered in St. Johann in Tirol, Oberndorf, Kirchdorf and Erpfendorf. Experience the lovliest moments on the mountain with qualified mountain guides and mountain hiking guides. Hikes are free for those taking part (excluding transfer and lift costs). Registration not required. The exact hiking programme with an outline of the hiking routes is available from your accommodation provider and in the tourist information offices in the region.

Equipment: sturdy hiking shoes, suitable clothing, drinks! and a small snack, rain jacket, sun protection, rucksack and hiking poles if available. Mountain guides reserve the right to make changes to the programme and are there to ensure the safety of participants.

Spießnägel 1,881 m Together we drive to the Unterer Grund parking lot in Aschau, the geographic center of the Kitzbühele Alps. The hike leads us through beautiful forests and meadows to Sonnwendalm and on to Hirzeggalm. The trail then meanders to the cross on the northern summit of Spießnägel. After a relaxing break we walk down past Hirzeggerlacke pond to Hirzeggalm where we stop for food before heading back to the parking lot via Oberer Grund. Wildseeloder - The Dark Lake Shuttle to Fieberbrunn where we take the gondola to Lärchfilzkogel (1,654 m). The trail leads through a breathtakingly beautiful landscape to pristine Lake Wildalpsee. Leaving the lake we continue to the top of Wildseeloder at 2,117 meters. After entering our names into the summit log, we briefly head down the western ridge before climbing to the second peak of the day, the Henne at 2,078 meters. After completing our loop around Lake Wildalpsee we stop for a well-deserved break at Wildseeloderhütte. Refueled and refreshed, we hike via the romantic Wildalmen to the mid terminal where we take the gondola back to the valley. Schnappenstein - A hidden Gem We take the shuttle to Gasthof Altmühl in Gasteig. A beautiful trail leads us along Schnappen ditch to Stubenalm. From the mountain hut we walk cross-country through pastures to Obere Schnappenalm and on to the cross at the top of Schnappen (1,546 m). After enjoying the wonderful views of Kaiserbachtal valley and the rugged Kaiser Massif we hike down Gasthof Altmühl. Please pack water and food since mountain huts are closed at this time of the year. The mighty Kaiser peaks up close - A hut hike along the Kaiser Rock Walls Taxi to Wochenbrunner Alm in Ellmau. Leaving the mountain restaurant we hike up to Gaudeamushütte and on to Lehrergrab, a popular vista point. We then continue via Ackerlhütte to Granderalm. This beautiful hike offers spectacular views of the Hohe Tauern Range and the rugged peaks of the Wilder Kaiser Massif. Return to the valley to cozy Gasthaus Rummlerhof. Großer Schütz (2,069 m) Together we drive to the mining ruins in Aurach. The trail starts out easy, then ascends more steeply towards Schlichtenalm Ridge. Once at the ridge, we continue through trail-less terrain to the peak of Großer Schütz. After a long break at the summit cross we hike back to the starting point. A very special Kalkstein Tour We take the shuttle to Mühlbach Chapel where we follow burbling Mühlbach brook past old mountain huts and beautiful nature sports to the plateau on Kalkstein. After enjoying a snack and the views of the surrounding mountains, we hike via Kalkstein Peak to Sameralm and down to St. Johann in Tirol. Don’t forget to bring your own water and food, as there is no mountain hut along the way! Niederkaiser Ridge - A place of living Contemplation This hike takes us from the center of St. Johann in Tirol to an old hermitage, which has been the home for a succession of hermits for over 300 years. We continue past a tiny chapel, the Gmailkapelle, to Ursula Cross on the Niederkaiser Ridge. We return via Gscheuerkopf, to Kaiser Niederalm and Granderalm down to the valley to Gasthof Rummlerhof. We follow a brook up to Hochwildalm and continue to the summit of Weißkopfkogel, with great views of the Kitzbühel Alps as our steady companion. We take a small trail up to Vordere Ranggenalm where we enjoy fantastic views of the Kaiser’s northern rock walls, towers and turrets. We continue via Hintere Ranggenalm to Griesner Alm and back to Fischbachalm. KAT Walk Stage 4 - World Cup Feeling We take the train to Hahnenkamm in Kitzbühel (departure: 09:18 am from the train station in St. Johann in Tirol) and hike up the world-famous Streif. At the start house we pick up the high elevation trail to the mountain lake. The trail is themed “Farm Life Throughout The Season”. After a short break we take the gondola back to the valley. Loferer Steinberge: Scenic Grieseltal We take a taxi or drive to St. Ulrich-Schwendt. We start at Halserbauern farm and hike through scenic Grieseltal valley to Niederkaseralm – Hochkaseralm at 1,500m. We then walk along Schmiedgraben ditch to the Halserbauer snack station where we stop for a well-deserved lunch.
