Naturschauspiel am Wilden Kaiser
Abwechslungsreiche Rundwanderung mit leichtem Abstieg.
Stage 2 of the Wilder Kaiser Trail is a loop trail that starts and ends in Griesenau, with a lot of exciting things in between, including superb views of the Wilder Kaiser massif, quaint huts where you can take a break and refuel, and an abundance of scenic beauty. Stage 2 offers a longer and a shorter option to choose from.
Right from the first step this tour is a scenic one. First, the gondola lifts us to the alpine pasture area beneath the summit of Hohe Salve. Then starts the not too difficult ascent to the summit of Hohe Salve, one of the best vantage points in Tirol. Right on top of the mountain there is Austria’s highest pilgrimage church. The descent via the lakes Salvensee and Filzalmsee leads over picturesque steep paths. In Hochbrixen we can either take the gondola back to the valley or continue along a steep path downhill to Brixen im Thale and its impressive twin-towered church.
This varied route leads slightly upwards through forests and meadows, and past the magnificent farms of the Penningberg mountain. After a short level section towards Innerpenningberg, the second ascent begins to the rustic Haagalm. Without any serious difference in altitude you will reach Höhenbrandalm, where the descent via a forest road to the stage's finish point of Kelchsau begins. In Kelchsau you will find some stunning wooden houses and farms.
