Tour information

On the forest path up to the Wiegalm (Route 210), you soon leave the stream, its obvious wildness tamed over the years, behind you, past the Brixenbachalm and further uphill. The view culminates at the Wiegalm, widely known for its oven-fresh roast pork.

The playful Wiegalm trail destroys every metre of height that took so much effort to achieve. Undulating alpine meadows and damp forests determine the path. A little later you are already about to hit the cycle path to Aschau (Route 204), through the small village to the Aschau mountain trail (Route 205). Framed by the Grosser and Kleiner Rettenstein, you glide through the water-rich lower ground to the Klooalm. Sitting in the sun, you can enjoy all kinds of home-made food here: from home-made cheese to sumptuous platter snacks and delicious cake creations. A pleasure ...

Before continuing your journey, we recommend on hot days that you fill up all you water supplies to the brim. Over the next two hours and 900 vertical metres, this liquid resource will become scarce.

Soon the previously gentle route becomes steeper, with extreme ramps waiting time and time again. Each of these ramps is followed by a flat passage, however, and behind many bends lies a wonderful view of the surrounding green mountain world and beyond into the Brixental Valley. Lifts herald the imminent end of the ascent, before the summit of the four-day tour is reached on the Pengelstein at an altitude of 1938 m. Further on to Ehrenbachhöhe, only a short counter-ascent separates you from the legendary Fleckalm trail. Kirchberg's figurehead soars a proud 1,000 metres upwards, challenging your body and mind.

Along small side roads and wide forest paths, past the Schwarzsee lake, you coast comfortably on undulating terrain. One more short ascent to the Steuerberg, before the journey continues at a more relaxed pace downhill behind the inn of the same name.

The nearby Oberndorf and the reputation of the Penzinghof as a paradise of wellness and enjoyment are enough to bring fresh energy to weary legs. A garden pond, a pool with a view on the roof, the aromatic Swiss stone pine robe sauna in the basement and a salad buffet that is surpassed only by the intermediate courses freshly prepared in the open kitchen. The crowning glory of a truly royal stage.

The middle option leads from the Ehrenbachhöhe towards the Hahnenkamm mountain station, where Route 232 leads along alpine meadows and through woodland to the town of Kitzbühel. New from 2019 is the Hahnenkamm Bike Trail, an easy single trail as an alternative to the much more difficult Fleckalm trail.

The easy option leads at the end of the Wiegalm trail along cycle path 204 to Kirchberg and further along the Brixental Valley cycle path (21) to Schwarzsee lake.
