Oberndorf - Facts and Figures
The Wilder Kaiser sits enthroned in front of all the buildings in Oberndorf in Tirol. In the Kitzbüheler Alpen there is barely any town better placed than Oberndorf in Tirol (687 metres altitude); a place where you get to enjoy a view from your window which will send you into raptures every day. Nestling between the Haus ski area on the Kitzbüheler Horn and the Kaiser mountains, this picturesque town (2000 inhabitants) is indeed inviting, exudes Tirol cordiality, has a wide and diverse programme of activities in the natural surroundings, set between the lush alpine pastures, roaring mountain streams and the wonderful 'Bichlach' with its ponds. Walkers can enjoy dreamy tours in the sunny Leukental Valley, in both summer and winter. One of the loveliest tours takes you to the Schleier waterfall – the highest waterfall in the Wilder Kaiser. Bichlachbad provides refreshment in the summer and on a lush area covering 13,000 square metres, sun worshippers can look for a spot to suit them. The town centre is well worth a look, with its Baroque parish church and the biggest wooden well in the world in front of the historic Müllnerhof. Skiers and snowboarders can get way up high in the winter - a gondola means that there are almost no waiting times and provides speedy access to the extensive ski area in St. Johann in Tirol / Oberndorf – well-known for its long, dreamy ski runs and views to the Kaiser mountains.
