Tour information

Immerse yourself in the enchanting Pillerseetal, enjoy the view of the world's highest accessible summit cross and stroll along lake Pillersee to the pilgrimage site of St. Adolari…
Today the hike leads from St. Johann in Tirol across the Pillerseetal valley to St. Ulrich and along the Pillersee, which gives the valley its name. The stage destination is the guest house at St. Adolari chapel, which is over 600 years old.

From St. Johann tourist information office, the tour starts to the left on Dechant-Wieshoferstraße, heading north. Past the front of the deanery church, you will cross the main road at Lackner shoe store. Arriving at the Wieshoferbrücke bridge - shortly after the statue of St. Nepomuk - turn right into Murweg and follow this to the crossroads after the St. Johann in Tirol airfield.

Here you will turn left in the direction of Reitham. Keep to the right at the Bergerhof to hike further and further south-east. On the little-traveled road, you will stroll through the hamlets of Winkl-Sonnseite and Mühlbach towards Fieberbrunn.

With the Wilder Kaiser mountain range in the back, the peaks of Karstein, Wildseeloder and Spielberg in view, the hike runs above the sunny side of the valley to the second railway underpass in the hamlet of Alte Straße. Take the junction to the left here, towards Obwall and St. Jakob in Haus.

From the hamlet Filzen, walk along the Besinnungsweg ("reflection path"), which is located directly on the KAT Walk, towards the village center. Symbols of the patron St. James the Elder such as a shell, a stick and a hat can be found along the way.

In the small village of St. Jakob, which is on the Way of St. James (Camino de Santiago), cross the main road by the church and continue towards the valley station of the Pillersee mountain railway. Always in view: the imposing, 30 m high Jakobskreuz on the Buchensteinwand, which can be easily reached by taking a detour with the Pillersee mountain railway.

Via the hamlet Flecken with its traditional Tyrolean farms, continue towards St. Ulrich am Pillersee. At the crossroads to Flecken, turn left, continue walking along the road and keep left again at the next fork. After crossing the bridge, turn right to get to Roischenauweg. From here, follow the Aurunde through the beautiful winter landscape along the Grieselbach river.

At the center of St. Ulrich a.P. follow the course of the stream straight ahead to lake Pillersee, where the winter hiking trail leads directly along the picturesque lakeshore and on to the Teufelsklamm car park.

From the last section of the route you can see the small pilgrimage church and the St. Adolari guest house, the destination of the KAT Walk Winter.
