Experience two charming town centers and hike along the Aschauer Ache river to the stage destination Schloss Münichau.
Culinary delights guaranteed - on today's stage you will find the village centers of Brixen im Thale and Kirchberg in Tirol, which offer many traditional restaurants and refreshment stops. This way you get to explore the idyllic villages up close and there is enough time for delicious Tyrolean delicacies.
Today's hike starts at the
Westendorf tourist information office.
From there you leave the village center on
Schulgasse, past the
tennis court, towards the east.
At the end of Schulgasse, the paved road joins a
winter hiking trail, on which you can hike to the hamlet of
Bichling.
After reaching an
asphalt road again, you will soon pass a
farm and then a small
junction where the path meanders
down to the left.Walking between traditional farmhouses, you finally reach the
intersection on
Bichling. From there the path leads
to the right in the direction of
Brixen im Thale. After about 2 km, at the crossroads to
Kandler Alm, you can use the
Hochbrixen mountain railway for a detour to higher altitudes. To do so, walk
straight ahead along the street and, after a
downward passage, turn
left through an
underpass towards the
mountain railways. Continuing
straight ahead, you first reach the
SkiWeltbahn and directly opposite the
Hochbrixen gondola, which leads up to the
Alpeniglu village.
Would you rather continue hiking
without this detour? Then, at the
crossroads to
Kandler Alm, the route has to be followed slightly to the
right over the
wooden bridge. Soon you will be marching
under the white gondolas of the SkiWeltbahn. If you want to take a
coffee break in
Brixen im Thale, you can follow the
signs to the
village center at the intersection at lake
Erlensee.
Otherwise, continue on the
winter hiking trail, which soon crosses the
valley run of the ski slope to get to the
Brixen bathing lake. Then the route continues through the
outskirts of Brixen towards
Kirchberg.
After about an hour's walk from the bathing lake, you will reach the
trotting track and the
KTM E-Cross Center Kirchberg. Here you can either walk
straight ahead to the
center of the village (shortcut: -1.5 hours) or walk up to the
Gaisberg. From up there you will enjoy a
wonderful panorama, after which you can
walk down into the valley. To do so, turn
right onto
Schergrubweg and follow this road
uphill for almost 2 km.
At the highest point, just
after a farmhouse, the path leads into the
forest. As soon as the forest clears, you will cross a
snow-covered field. At the end of this lies the
Gasthaus Obergaisberg, where a
refreshment stop is worthwhile.
From here, walk along the
road in several
curves into the valley, always following the
signs to
Kirchberg.
Kirchberg also offers many hotels, restaurants and small shops - perfect for a break from hiking.
If you feel like it, you can walk to the
Gaisberg lift and borrow sledges there to whiz down the
natural toboggan run on the Gaisberg. Up with the chairlift and down with the toboggan - what a highlight on this tour!
To stay on the regular route, cross the
village square ("Dorfplatz") in the
center at
Hotel Bechlwirt.Continue straight until you can
turn right onto the lively
Kitzbüheler Straße.Immediately after
crossing the bridge, a
staircase on the right leads
down to the
Aschauer Ache river.
Once
under the bridge, continue to the
right to hike
downstream on the promenade.
Via
Klausen near Kirchberg you get to
Gundhabing near Kitzbühel to the
Schwarzsee golf course. Turn
left there in the direction of
Reith bei Kitzbühel. Walking along
Golfweg you will soon reach the
intersection with the
Griesbachweg.
KAT Walk “complete hassle-free package” bookers turn
left here to follow
Griesbachweg to today's accommodation,
Pension Thainerhof.
To reach the stage destination
Schloss Münichau, turn
right at the

Münichau Castle lies right in front of you and you have reached your destination.
