A challenge for strong calves at the end: the last KAT Bike stage from Oberndorf i.T. to Fieberbrunn with approx. 48 km and 1,600 m uphill & downhill. Challenging ascents, magnificent panoramas on the Kalkstein plateau and in the middle of it all the Harschbichltrail! What more could you want?
The water bottles are filled, the bike checked and the muesli bars packed. The last stage of the
KAT Bike Sport+ will be tough! Another
48 kilometres with 1,600 metres of altitude difference lead from
Oberndorf over the Harschbichl and the Kalkstein to Fieberbrunn.
Take the
Römerweg towards Kitzbühel and turn left to a narrow asphalt trail which will lead you to the Stanglalm. You will gain some high meters very soon!
Passing the Stanglalm, you continue below the Harschbichl towards the middle station to take the
Harschbichl trail there. Its entrance is hidden at the edge of the reservoir. The trail opens up a varied chase through woods and meadows, berms, wooded ground and always wide northshore elements before it ends in the district of Apfeldorf in
St. Johann.
From here, Speckbacher Straße leads directly through the centre and past the baroque church. At the end of the pedestrian zone, turn left to cycle path no. 18 "Kalksteinrunde" and follow it along the Tiroler Ache towards
Kirchdorf in the Habach district. From here, the final 1000 metres of altitude difference of the four-day trip await you. First on the narrow asphalt road and soon on a beautiful forest road in the shade of deciduous trees, the route climbs steadily. Above the tree line you find yourself on almost kitschy alpine pastures.
The view of the Kitzbüheler Horn, the St. Johanner Becken and the Wilder Kaiser is now completely unobstructed. And on it goes uphill, past the
Adlerspoint Alm. The highest point is reached shortly before the
Gerstbergalm. A little later, after crossing the meadow, the bike trail ends.
From the edge of the forest, the path becomes a
carrying passage (approx. 500m) over steep roots along rocks and steps. ATTENTION: E-bikes are not allowed. Pass at your own risk. After this section, the trail becomes rideable again and finally ends at the goods road that leads into the valley to
St. Ulrich am Pillersee.
Beforehand, you have the opportunity to stop at the
Winterstelleralm, where a Bretteljause (snack) or Kaiserschmarrn (pancake) will refill your energy reserves. There is still a nice stretch of road to the finish in Fieberbrunn. It is downhill and along quiet cycle paths through the beautiful valley to
St. Jakob and
Fieberbrunn.
The
Hotel Alte Post is already waiting in the centre. A bike hotel with great attention to detail. In the bike cellar, it is not only the bikes that feel at home after a well-deserved wash. The owner of the hotel is, how could it be otherwise, a guide and passionate biker himself. The Zirben spa or the rooftop pool are great places to relax!
The next day, the train takes you back to Hopfgarten with your bikes and luggage. Free of charge for all guests with a
guest card!
