Tour information

The starting point of the circular hike is the hiking information point at the information office in Hopfgarten. From there you cross the large parking lot of the mountain railway past the parking garage. At the end of the parking lot, follow the signs first through the railway underpass and then left along Brixentaler Straße.
After about 100 m you reach the Stegner Bridge, a covered wooden bridge that you cross. At the other end of the bridge, follow Kelchsauer Straße into the valley. At the Elsbethenbrücke, cross the Kelchsauer Ache and follow the signs to Hörbrunn.
Along the Kelchsauer Ache you can now hike leisurely into the valley, past the Salvenaland, past quiet farms and small settlements. After about 3.5 km you will reach the Hörbrunn district.
The church ruins located there and the former glassworks - today the Hörbrunn youth hostel - bear witness to the economic importance of Hopfgarten in the time of industrialization.
Continue for a short distance (approx. 80 m) along Kelchsauer Straße into the valley to the hamlet of Bruma. There the signs for 'Penningdörfl' lead you uphill a little steeper along a forest path through the quiet mountain forest. After about 20 minutes you will reach the Trauchahöfe. From there we continue on the paved road to Penning.
Leaving tranquil farms and small house ensembles behind you, you reach Penningdörfl. This small settlement with its own chapel and a clearly agricultural core is certainly one of the absolute highlights of the holiday region.
In this romantic setting, the snack you bring with you can be enjoyed a lot more. Maybe you fancy award-winning soft cheese from the region? At the Rehaber-Hof the dairy boys produce excellent cow's milk cheese of the best quality. The self-service farm shop is open Monday to Saturday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
After a well-deserved refreshment, follow the signs to 'Hopfgarten'. On the tracks of the KAT Walk Alpin, you now hike downhill through the Schönbachtal. At the end of it you reach Grafenweger Straße. Follow this about 60 m downhill and then turn right to Hopfgarten. You finally reach Hopfgarten again via the hamlet of Blaiken and a forest path. Go back to the starting point over the bridge and the railway underpass at Lukasfeld.
