This day tour to Kröndlhorn starts from the car park at Gasthof Wegscheid in Kurzer Grund valley. From there follow the signposting to Neue Bamberger Hütte. The hiking path leads through a shady forest in the beginning and then leads to a forest road. From there you have the option to take the hiking paths for a shortcut or stay on the leisurely forest road. Shortly before Neue Bamberher Hütte, at the beginning of the alpine pasture Kuhwildalm, you get to a fork. From there follow the signs and keep to the left on the forest path which takes you up to Streitfeldenalm in 1982 m above sea level. Right by the dairy farm buildings starts the hiking path which leads you to Nandernachjoch (2100m), the border to Salzburg. From there, the tour continues in northern direction on a steep path towards the rocky summit structure of Kröndlhorn. Once arrived at the ridge, the path leads to the right. Only a few metres afterwards you’ll finally have reached the summit which is marked by a small chapel instead of a summit cross. The amazing panorama of the snow-covered peaks of the Hohe Tauern and Zillertal Alps as well as incredible view down into the valley of Kelchsau make Kröndlhorn such a worthwhile destination. To return take the same way back. There is an alternative route though – from Streitfeldalm you can take the forest path leading to Markkirchl chapel and then continue along the way to Neue Bamberger Hütte. This alternative route adds an hour and 15 minutes as well as 4 km to the hike.
