To get to the start of the tour, take the cable car Salvenbahn I from Hopfgarten to the middle station. Follow the sign-posted forest path to the reservoir, “Speicherteich Hohe Salve”. The view from there is breath-taking – you can see the whole Brixental valley and the surrounding mountains.
The wooden loungers beckon to have a rest and relax. Children have fun with the water pump.
Continue your tour uphill to lake Salvensee right at the foot of the summit of the Hohe Salve. There, too, you have the chance to put your feet up and recharge your batteries for the rest of the tour.
From Salvensee you now walk with short ascents and descents to the alpine pasture Innere Keatalm and further to Äußere Keatalm which lies right below the the gondola leading from Hochsöll to the Hohe Salve. The one constant companion on this section of the route: the Wilder Kaiser massif. With its rough peaks rising into the sky it is a truly impressive sight.
From the Äußere Keatalm the tour goes on through a small forest to the valley station of the Rigibahn. After a short climb you get to the alpine inn Rigi at 1.533m above sea level. There the innkeepers will treat you to regional delicacies such as “Käsespätzle” (cheese spaetzle) or Pressknödel (flat cheese dumplings). On the terrace you can once more enjoy the unique panorama before continuing on the well signposted hiking path down to the middle station of the Salvenbahn Hopfgarten.
