Start this circular walk at the Salvenaland leisure park in Hopfgarten. From there continue leisurely on the path along the Kelchsauer Ache river until you get to the district of Elsbethen. Now walk past the “s’elsbethen” social and nursing home and the stunning Unterrainhof farm and continue towards the Elsbethen church which dates back to the early 16th century. From here you have the wonderful opportunity to take in the surrounding scenery and rest for a little while. Following the sign you now walk steeply uphill to the ruins of Engelsberg Castle. The foundation walls of the former castle are still there and offer a glimpse of days long gone. Now the circular hike leads you through woodland to the two Formegg farms where you change from the forest path back to asphalt. On Glantersberg continue along the road briefly uphill and then to the right on a field path. Already after a few metres you gee to the forest border and a rest area that invites you to enjoy the view of the Hohe Salve.
From there the path takes you leisurely and gently downhill and into the valley until you reach the Hörbrunn church ruins. To these days the ruins and the building of the former Hörbrunn glassworks following immediately after bear witness to Hopfgarten’s economic importance in glass production. To get back to your starting point take the path out of the valley along the Kelchsauer Ache river
Alternative route: the walk can be shortened at the Oberformegg farm. Just follow the sign there and take the path to the Salvenaland directly.
