We ascend to the starting point of this summit hike, the Hohe Salve middle station, with the Salvenbahn I gondola lift from Hopfgarten. From the middle station, the hike starts via a well-signposted forest trail to the Hohe Salve reservoir. After a short rest at the lake, the trail continues to the Salvensee lake, which lies directly at the foot of the Hohe Salve.
With our destination already in sight, we then hike across the southern slope to the summit of the Hohe Salve. Once at the top, it is worth visiting the Salvenkirchlein, the highest pilgrimage church in Austria. After enjoying the stunning 360° panorama, the Gipfelalm with its revolving sun terrace and restaurant invites us to take a cosy break.
We can return to the middle station either via the same path or via the Alpengasthof Rigi. Of course, we can also take the gondola lift from the summit to the valley.
