Chamber Music Festival - THE classic music festival in the Alps
The Hopfgarten Chamber Music Festival takes place from 27 August - 10 September 2016
What makes the Chamber Music Festival Hopfgarten so special?
A journey through European chamber music. Great composers. Magnificent works.
At the end of summer, just like in the years before, Hopfgarten is once more THE place to be for lovers of chamber music. On the occasion of the 22nd Chamber Music Festival Europe’s best musicians meet in the market town to set off on a musical journey through Europe which will last from 27 August to 10 September
The 22nd Chamber Music Festival Hopfgarten takes us on a musical journey through Europe this year. It is a trip from the very north (Al Maskats) to the Mediterranean region (Boccherini, Vivaldi) and from the Atlantic (Debussy, Marais) to the heart of the continent which was also the musical heart of Europe during the period of Romanticism and Viennese Classic.
Ramon Jaffé, the musical director of the chamber music festival, and the musicians of the festival go on a chamber musical journey through Europe and five centuries. Great compositions such as Luigi Boccherini’s “Stabat Mater” for soprano and string quintet, Claude Debussy’s “Danse sacrée et profane” or the Johannes Brahms’ brilliant piano quintet f-moll op 34 are on the agenda which contains, just as usual, also some less known gems of chamber music.
Apart from the festive opening concert (27 August) in the Hopfgarten parish church with works of Vivaldi, Marcello, Rheinberger, Widor and Boccerhni there are two more concerts on the programme at the Salvena (30 August: Marais, Barriére, Debussy, Wolf, Maskats / 02 September: Schubert, Mozart, Brahms)
The musical journey will be ended with a performance of the superb mezzo soprano Angelika Kirchschlager who , accompanied by Robert Lehrbaumer, will take the audience on a German Lieder journey through Austria. On the programme of her only concert in Tyrol are arias and lieder, e.g. the Ave Maria by Bach/Gounod, lieder by Schubert and Bruckner, Gypsy songs by Schubert and Bruckner, “Ave Verum” by Mozart, German folk songs by Brahms and many more.
