An insider's tip in the Tyrolean lowlands. The Torhelm at the head of the Langer Grund valley in Kelchsau is the highest "hikeable" peak in the Kitzbüheler Alpen, thus offering brilliant panoramic views.
Getting there: Take the Inntalautobahn exit Wörgl Ost, then head towards Kitzbühel via Bruckhäusl to the junction/roundabout to the right to Brixental and Hopfgarten. In Hopfgarten after the railway underpass keep straight to Kelchsau and continue to the intersection Langer und Kurzer Grund. Now follow the road straight ahead in the Langer Grund, all the way to the Tiefentalalm mountain restaurant, 1,441m.
TIPP: The alpine mountain hut Tiefentalalm (1,441 m) was built in 1530 and is the oldest alpine hut in the Kitzbühel Alps. The rustic interior with a 500 years old fireplace where the meals were cooked in earlier days, still reflects how alpine life must have been in the past.A great excursion destination for bikers and families within impressive alpine mountain scenery.
