Tour outline - DAY ONE
The journey to this crossing of the Kitzbüheler Alpen proceeds via Kirchberg i.T. and Aschau to the large car park at the end of the Spertental. Those of you who will be arriving late can spend the first night in Oberlandhütte. Incidentally, this alpine association lodge uses predominantly produce from the region and is part of the 'So schmecken die Berge' campaign. The first destination is the 550 metre Spießnägel. Proceeding along the wonderful ridge to Schöntaljoch and continuing to the 2366 metre Großer Rettenstein. Sure-footedness is required in the upper section. Thanks to its unrivalled position, the Rettenstein provides a fantastic panorama view - the eternal ice cover on the peaks of the Hohe Tauern, the Kitzbüheler Horn and the Wilder Kaiser compete for the viewer's attention. The descent proceeds via the larch-lined Schöntal to Labalm. Harald Klingsbigl indulges his guests with hearty home-cooked fare which is of the utmost quality. His special 'Bauernbratl' and 'Knödelteller' are especially popular.
Tour outline - DAY TWO
From Labalm the route proceeds to Gerstinger Joch. Via Hintenkarscharte and Scheibenschlagalm you head down to Gasthaus Steinberg, where by way of refreshment you should definitely try out Michael Grafl's herb parfait. In the evening tender chamois schnitzel with plum sauce, or the medium-rare saddle of venison provide temptation.
