This route leads steadily uphill for around 14 kilometres - a total of around 300 metres in altitude. The starting point is the village centre of Westendorf in Tyrol. The "prologue" leads along Dorfstrasse past Westendorf’s golf course. The route continues on the Windauer Landesstraße in many bends as far as the toll booth at Gasthaus Jagerhäusl in the Windau Valley - all on asphalt.
From here you follow the route in the direction of Hinterwindau, past the Gasthaus Steinberg. Shortly thereafter, the path changes from asphalt to a well-developed gravel road. From now on, the path leads uphill, in numerous bends and always along the refreshing Windauer Ache, to the destination - the Gamskogelhütte.
