Westendorf’s local mountain: Nachtsöllberg - Guggenkögele

Departing from the tourist office we walk approximately 500 m along Pfarrgasse, pass the snack-bar, Bruchstall, then shortly after, turn left (note the sign for the Alpinolino Trail!). Walking along this moderately difficult trail, we come to the Zieplhof restaurant and then trek onwards to the Alte Mittel restaurant. We can also do this walk, starting from the tourist office, taking the Schulgasse , the Well-Being Trail as far as the Zieplhof restaurant and onwards to the Alte Mittel restaurant. Once here, we have two options. 1) we head off to the left towards Kandleralm – from there we have the possibility to hike to Santenbach Hochalm and from there up to Choralpe – Talkaser or 2) we take the Alpinolino Trail from the Alte Mittel restaurant to the Stimmlach Inn and on to the Maierhof Inn. From the Maierhof Inn we follow the signs for the Alpenrosenbahn’s middle station. At this middle station, we find the Sonnalm restaurant. Behind the restaurant is a small hiking trail uphill towards the Alpenrosenhütte, also an inn. Above this inn a wider trail leads us to the Talkaser restaurant at the mountain-top station of the Alpenrosenbahn.  From the station it is not much longer to Choralpe and to the Gugenkogel summit cross (approx.. 20 mins). You can of course include one or other of the mountain / valley gondola trips into your tour. For the descent, you can choose the same route back or alternatively you can hike via the Fleidingalm – Schrandlhof – to Westendorf (forest road). From the Fleidingalm, you can also hike via the Waterfall route -  the Maierhof Inn and return to the village via the Nachtsöllberg road. We have decided on the following variation: from the Choralpe – Santenbachhochalm – Kasbichlalm – hiking trail to the Kandleralm junction – then we keep to the left and walk towards the Alte Mittel restaurant – Zieplhof restaurant – Alpinolino – Westendorf.
