Tour information

The ideal departure point for this hike is from the Lendwirt in the Unterwindau.  From here, we walk a short distance into the valley, cross over a bridge and continue straight ahead (ie. keeping to the right) in the direction of Schwaigerberg. The first section is a bit steep, but once past the forest, the road leads us gently uphill.  The three Schwaigerberg farms provide us with the first of many beautiful sights on this tour.  The continuous views of the Hohe Salve, the Brixen valley, the Windau valley, the Wilder Kaiser and the Kitzbühel Alps accompany us for the duration of this hike.  Following the road further, we come to a fork, “Gruberberg” where a small barn can be found.  We remain on the road to the left and continue uphill.   After approx. 10 mins, the asphalt road develops into a forest trail which then takes a sharp bend to the left after a short distance.  At this point, on the right-hand-side, there is a little spring with beautiful drinking water. Continuing on our way, we arrive once again at a section of forest, after which we cross over a cattle grid which leads us onto wide open alpine pastures.  At the “Angerla” intersection, we keep to the left, follow the road downhill and after a few minutes arrive at the Kienzlinger Alm.  This mountain hut doesn’t provide any refreshments!!  However the road continues in twists and turns slightly uphill as far at the junction for “Lodron”.  We take the road to the left (downhill), through a forest section, and after another cattle grid, arrive at the Alpine pastures “Scharlingtal”.  After a longer downhill hike, we arrive at a junction, in the forest section, where we can branch off towards “Straubing”. (If we were to take the road to the right, we would arrive at Jägerhäusl, then either onwards to Westendorf or alternatively to the Lendwirt – see signposts).  We branch off to the left and walk to the Straubing Alm where we can fortify ourselves with delicious home-made products.  Once recharged after this very pleasant stop, we follow the trail in the direction of the Lendwirt.  After a somewhat steeper section, we arrive at an asphalt road which we follow downhill.  In the valley once again, we turn to the left onto the Unterwindau road. Passing the beautiful “Fassl Chapel” on our right, we arrive at our original departure point after approx. 15 mins – the Lendwirt (closed Tuesdays).
