This hike starts in the village centre of Westendorf.
First, we walk along Peter-Neuschmid-Straße out of the village to the valley floor and cross the federal road. Passing the Hofer supermarket we continue slightly uphill to the hamlet of Feichten. We walk through the hamlet and at the last farmhouse, the “Strubl” farm, we stay on the height (and do not follow the road to the valley) and continue on the dirt track to the edge of the forest. We walk to the left there and continue on a hiking trail through forests and meadows uphill until we get to the “Pfennig” farm. We now follow the access road, cross a stream and keep to the right at the following fork and walk on asphalt uphill until we get to the “Schmidhof” farm. Here you find a beautiful cottage garden. We follow the signpost which leads us to the left on a dirt track and later on a steep path to a chapel, the “Wittalkapelle”. At the chapel we have two options:
Walking uphill we get to the mountain inn Gasthaus Tenn and the middle station of the Hopfgarten gondola lift. With the lift we could ride up to the summit of the Hohe Salve or downhill to Hopfgarten where we could then go by bus back to Westendorf.
Walking downhill we could get to the centre of Hopfgarten. Or we would look out for the signpost (shortly above Hopfgarten) which would lead us to the left-hand side towards Westendorf. At first we cross the federal road (attention!!!), then we walk uphill along the access road to “Rauchleithof” farm, We cross the meadow there and get to a forest hiking path which leads us to the farms “Thaler” and “Kogler” in the Au district of Westendorf.
In case you would like to take the same way back from the mountain inn Gasthaus Tenn, you can walk downhill to the valley on the asphalt road, which takes you to the hamlet of Kummern. Down in the valley keep to the left, walk past the Zeilach farm and watch out for the sign that leads you across the meadow to the hamlet of Feichten.
