Departure point is the Gaisberg lift valley station. If you choose the shorter version, take the 4-man chair lift to the mountain-top station, saving 1 ½ hours walking. The hiking route starts behind the lift station and follow a short path across a field as far as the Obfeldhof. From this point you can see the small “Kirchanger Chapel”. From the chapel, follow the road to the Gasthof Obergaisberg. Continue along the wider gravel road, pass the reservoir, as far as the Gaisberg lift mountain-top station. In Winter, this road serves as the toboggan run.
At the mountain-top station, keep to the left, walk uphill through the gallery (landslide protection) to the Bärstättalm. Behind the hut, a mountain track leads to the summit cross. After crossing the Gaisbergjoch, a short, steep descent follows via the Nagillersteig. After this challenge, we arrive at the Harlasanger Chapel and can call into the Kobinger mountain hut for refreshments. A relatively level track leads us back to the Bärstättalm and on to the Gaisberg chair lift. From here, you can either take the lift down to the valley or follow the forest road/toboggan run downhill to the Alpine mountain restaurant, Obergaisberg. Passing the Kirchanger Chapel, the route takes us back to Kirchberg. It is also possible to descend along the route 5a.
