Apart from idyllic, lush green scenery of the western Kitzbühel- Alps, this hike is special as it takes you to the mountain pasture Untere Lärchenbergalm, home to Sepp Kahn, an author, farmer, and Alpine herds- and dairyman whose alpine diaries offer a fascinating insight into the life and work in the mountains.
Starting at the guesthouse “Steinberg” in Windau valley in Westendorf, the route first goes through a forest and then across open meadows, past the Untere Lärchenbergalm and the Oberkaralm onto Lodron- the highest point of the route. After a short rest at the summit you take the north-western path down to the traditional village of Kelchsau, past the Obere- and Untere Lodronalm and the Demmelshütte. Tour- character: Not particularly difficult but stamina needed. For kids from the age of 12.
